WASHINGTON – Movement Voter PAC (MVP), the political action committee affiliate of Movement Voter Project — which dubs itself a “mutual fund for political giving” — is investing $1 million in Democratic-aligned organizing groups today, the first tranche of a $50 million commitment through 2028 to reform the Democratic Party. This investment comes with the release of “Beyond the Autopsy,” an 8-point reform agenda drawing on more than 100 interviews with organizers, donors, and leaders from the DSA to the DNC, and accompanied by new polling from Data for Progress showing voters remain distrustful of Democrats and support proposed changes to party practices. MVP has already put $21 million into the 2026 midterms to help Democrats win up and down the ballot.
“So many Democratic-aligned voters, leaders, activists, organizers, donors, and supporters lost trust after 2024. We take that seriously: Resignation is a win for authoritarians. We cannot let that be the end of the story,” said Billy Wimsatt, MVP’s founder and executive director. “That is why we took on this project: to launch a gigantic conversation on how we fix the Democratic Party. One year later, this report is a first step toward a multi-year campaign to create a mandate for sweeping reform.”
Too often, Wimsatt writes, “the Democratic Party feels like a technocratic, top-down, money-driven racket instead of a people-powered, mission-driven vehicle to improve our country.” Now, MVP is aiming to enlist donors, organizers, and party insiders alike to change that.
The Funding
Among the groups receiving the initial $1 million round of funding for reform efforts:
- Battleground Alliance, a coalition organizing to flip the House and hold it long-term.
- More Perfect Union Action, which pairs digital storytelling with campaigns to build working-class power.
- Down Home North Carolina, which organizes poor and working-class communities in the state's small towns and rural areas.
- Fair Representation in Redistricting Action, which fights for fair, equitable electoral maps.
“The good news is that so many of the answers are right in front of us, waiting to be funded at scale,” said Kristee Paschall, MVP's national director of civic engagement. “Backing groups like these, now and through 2028, is how this becomes more than a report and achieves real reforms that move our agenda forward. It’s how we get the Democratic Party that our country desperately needs right now.”
The Polling
To corroborate the insights in its Beyond the Autopsy report, MVP commissioned Data for Progress to survey Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters on the ideas presented. That polling finds just 45% of voters trust the Democratic Party. Other key findings:
- Voters across party identification say billionaires have too much political influence by a margin of 43 points, while working-class Americans have too little influence by a margin of 51 points.
- Democratic-leaning voters expect the DNC to be biased toward corporate PAC- and billionaire-funded candidates in the 2028 primary, by a margin of 13 points.
- The poll finds strong support for anti-corruption reforms in the Democratic Party, including barring consultants from holding DNC contracts while also working for super PACs in Democratic primaries, and cracking down on fundraising scams.
- There is broad enthusiasm for generational change, with 76% favoring mandatory retirement ages for party leaders and officials.
