Grantmaking

  • What is MVP’s grantmaking process?

MVP’s national and state advisors, all experienced organizers and strategists, make grants year-round in four steps: targeting the most pivotal places and races, vetting groups, allocating funds based on ongoing analysis, and evaluating results.

  • What is MVP's vetting process?

Our national and state advisors scout local groups and assess the quality of their electoral and year-round organizing, along with their organizational health. Then they run deep reference checks with movement leaders, organizers, peer funders, and allies.

  • How does MVP work with its grantee partner organizations?

Beyond funding, MVP’s advisors, who are longtime organizers themselves, work with partners year-round on coaching, strategy, and connections. They also bring partners together across states and issue areas for training, strategizing, coalition building, and action planning.

  • How does MVP measure success and evaluate grantees' work?

MVP measures grantees’ success in three areas: electoral impact, policy impact, and long-term civic power. We evaluate their work through on-the-ground assessment throughout the year, annual reports, and independent research by allied organizations.

  • How often does MVP request proposals and distribute funding?

MVP scouts for funding needs year-round rather than on a fixed proposal cycle. We distribute grants every month, and as often as several times a week (and sometimes daily) during rapid response periods and near Election Day.

  • Can I see a list of MVP grantees?

To protect our grantee partners from bad actors, we keep our full grantee list confidential. To request it, fill out our Supporter Vetting Form, and we’ll follow up.
