Strategy
- What does the data tell us from the 2024 and 2025 elections?
The 2025 elections showed that the rightward shift among young voters and voters of color in 2024 was temporary, not a permanent realignment. Democrats can win these voters back, and evidence suggests year-round, person-to-person organizing by groups like MVP’s partners is the most effective way to do it.
- How has MVP shifted its strategy in response to 2024?
After 2024, MVP expanded into three connected strategies: building state-level power through year-round organizing, scaling up new media to win hearts and minds, and emboldening Democrats to fight for bold, popular agendas. We’ve also doubled down on deep, year-round base building as the focus of our grantmaking.
- What if Trump tries to cancel the elections?
He can’t. Presidents have no power to cancel elections, and our decentralized election system would require thousands of state and local officials to go along. The November 2026 midterms will happen, and MVP partners are working to protect them from interference.
- What is MVP doing to stop authoritarianism?
MVP funds the fight against authoritarianism on multiple fronts: civil resistance like the No Kings days of action, defending immigrant and other targeted communities, countering GOP election rigging, and winning elections, starting with flipping the U.S. Senate and House in 2026.
- What is MVP doing to protect free and fair elections?
MVP funds local partners at four key points of defense: countering GOP redistricting, winning Secretary of State races, protecting state Supreme Courts, and rapid response election protection. Because elections are run by thousands of state and local officials, these local fights are where Trump and MAGA foul play gets stopped.
- What is MVP doing about the redistricting wars?
MVP partners are fighting GOP gerrymandering and backing Democrats’ counter-efforts, in states including California, Missouri, and Virginia.
- What is MVP doing about the media, disinformation, etc?
In short, we’re organizing the internet. MVP is investing at least $5-10 million in 2025-2026 to build progressive new media, from state-level digital organizing to youth and cultural organizing online.
- What is MVP doing about the Democratic Party?
MVP funds groups that embolden Democrats to fight for bold, popular agendas that can win voters we need, both now and long term. These groups organize voters to push the party, recruit bold candidates, strengthen local parties, and deliver the votes on Election Day.
- What is MVP doing to win back young voters? We need a “Turning Point of the Left”!
MVP is funding and strategizing with youth partners like Alliance for Youth Action and Gen-Z for Change to build a bigger progressive youth movement, online and offline, that can compete with Turning Point USA. Youth organizing is a core pillar of our new-media strategy and our state grantmaking.
- How does MVP weigh short-term electoral wins vs. long-term power building?
We do both, because each depends on the other. Short-term wins protect against long-term losses like gerrymandering and court capture, and long-term power building expands the map for future wins.
- What is MVP's current partisan money-moving goal?
In 2026, MVP aims to move at least $50 million in partisan funds to local organizing groups working to flip the U.S. Senate and House and win state-level power.
- What is MVP's position on Israel / Palestine?
MVP wants to see lasting peace, safety, and self-determination for every precious life: Palestinian, Israeli, and all people living in the land. We haven’t taken a more detailed position because our purpose is to fund organizing that builds a democracy that delivers here in the U.S.
